A President’s Year End Report 2016
Life has been busy this year around and about the shop and the car club. The first meeting of the year opened with record attendance. I believe mostly because a large number of the membership suffered from cabin fever over the winter months. Most everyone was looking forward to a get together, a car show, or a hangout. And a strong desire to throw open the garage door, fire up the Chevy, and head for Timmy’s or KMS. One of my favourite early car shows has always been the Poppy show! Early car shows are always very weather dependent but this year everything just clicked for Poppy. The student volunteer based event went very, very well. As the spring pushed on more and more car shows and weekend show and shines took place. It was heaven for anyone involved in the car hobby. The Chevelle Club had their second car show again this year at Donegal’s Pub early in June and just as the previous year the parking lot was full by 9:30 am and standing room only by 10:30am. Another banner day for management and staff at Donegal’s Pub. I think that Daniel and the girls wish that every Sunday could be a car show day! Hey think about that? Anyway, we cruised a little, made some new friends, saw a lot of new faces throughout the summer. The Vista D’Oro winery in South Langley was a meeting spot in June. We cruised over to their facility, had a great afternoon, got some excellent pictures, and sampled some of their jams, jellies, and grape juice. It was a fabulous day.
Once again this year Rita and Tar opened their home, backyard, and kitchen for the Chevelle Club summer picnic. Rita and the ladies put forth a fabulous dinner for our members. Tar is a lucky man to have married such a fine cook and a nice lady. Thanks again to the Mattu family for their hospitality. Another one of my favourites is always the Langley cruise in about town on Friday night. Again, well attended by the Chevelle Club at the Kostas’s Greek restaurant in downtown Langley. The Saturday event the following day is awesome and group parking is made available for the club by Julie and Blair. Where would we be without you Julie? We as a group made many trips to the local A&W’s around town to check out local cars. If you’ve never been to the Maple Ridge A&W Thursday evenings throughout the summer, I highly recommend it.
Just the other day we had our last business meeting of the year and I couldn’t help but wonder where did all the time go? We wrapped up all our club business and commitments for the year as well as our AGM and election of new officers. Once again this year the BC Chevelle and GM Club was able to provide funding and help two of our local food banks, the cancer society, we provided funding for hall rental at the Whalley Legion to provide a Christmas dinner, and a meeting place for the large number of people less fortunate than ourselves. The BC Chevelle and GM Club also proudly support Canuck Place, an important, worthy facility located in Abbotsford designed to help terminally ill children.
Everyone in the Chevelle Club should be proud to be a member. Our progressive little car club is providing assistance where needed, and providing fellowship in an organized, healthy club atmosphere.
Before you know it, our Christmas party will be upon us. Sunday December 11th at the Surrey Golf Course. The Chevelle Club has once again decided to build Toy Mountain so please bring unwrapped gifts for kids to the golf course that day. Tim and Garet will deliver the toys the next day to ensure that a lot of kids have a Christmas, Chevelle Club style. I hope to see you there. I’d like to take this opportunity to wish everyone in your family a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, looking forward to seeing you again in the New Year.
